  9. X3J14, the Technical Committee for ANS FORTH met June 28-30
  10. to consider six comments from the third public review, as
  11. well as proposals from within and outside the TC.
  12. As no substantive changes were made to the draft following
  13. this public review period, the document will be forwarded to
  14. X3 for final processing toward an ANS.  If all proceeds as
  15. expected, the final document will be available for purchase
  16. some time in 1994.
  17.  
  18. An interim draft will be published electronically in about
  19. two weeks for a 30-day informal review to allow reporting of
  20. typographical and other minor editorial mistakes.  This draft
  21. may be found on Internet at ftp.uu.net:/vendor/minerva/x3j14
  22. (see READMEd6.txt) and re-posted as anyone sees fit.  Typos
  23. should be reported as soon as possible directly to the
  24. Document Editor via X3J14-typos@Minerva.com.

  26. It has taken 5 years 11 months; 22 meetings; and 1543
  27. proposals to reach this point.  The total number of work-
  28. hours -- in and between meetings, for TC members and the many
  29. non-members who contributed -- is incalculable.  We hope and
  30. believe we have produced a standard that can be supported
  31. widely among Forth implementors and users.

  34. achievement.

  42. X3J14 is posting dpANS6 for a 30-day informal review to allow
  43. typos and other non-technical errors to be corrected before
  44. the final text is submitted to X3 for final processing to
  45. become ANS Forth.  This review period will expire 8/20/93.
  46.  
  47. You are welcome to acquire the document for the purpose of
  48. scanning for errors.  You are also welcome to re-post or
  49. distribute the file, accompanied by this READ-ME text, on any
  50. board or to anyone that might be helpful in this review.

  52. If you find any errors, please report them directly to our
  53. Document Editor, at x3j14-typos@Minerva.com.  This is not a
  54. formal Public Review Period; please do not submit comments to
  55. X3 or ANSI.  Also, the TC does not plan to meet again prior
  56. to final processing of this document; unless you report a
  57. major technical flaw that has escaped our prior screenings,
  58. any comments or proposals of a technical nature will be
  59. deferred until revisions to the ANS are considered in
  60. approximately four years.

  62. Following this informal review, the document will go under
  63. the control of X3 and ANSI.  It will be published by ANSI,
  64. and will be available for purchase from Global Engineering
  65. Documents some time in 1994.

  67. Requests for interpretation of this document may be directed
  68. to the TC; requests for interpretation of the published ANS
  69. should be directed to ANSI, who will pass them to the TC.  A
  70. mechanism will be set up within the TC to handle such
  71. requests during the next few years.
